Description

Sverre Malling (b. 1977) is an artist from Akershus. He’s graduated from Einar Granums Art School, the National crafts and art school, and the Norwegian Art Academy. With his figurative charcoal drawings filled with symbols from the mythology of rock music, grotesque fairy tales, botanic imagery and classical history of art, he has become one of Norway’s most characteristic artists. In 2010 the newspaper Morgenbladet wrote this about Malling: «He’ll get his own museum before he’s 50 years old … I can no longer imagine the world without his pieces of art».

Sverre Malling describes his Robotprint as follows: «It’s a tribute to one of my biggest inspirations, Félicien Rops, a vulgar, tendentious, outrageous, excessive, romantic, scary, disruptive, misanthropic, masturbating, misogynous, devil worshipping kitsch painter that wanted to kick down the old world at the end of 1800. Luckily for him art is a retreat where you can expose almost anything you want without getting a diagnosis. With his carnevalistic images Rops went where only a few people have been and will be going. He was a wild rampant who skipped Sunday school. This is my homage to him!»
